Maus Space

I've continually had a liking for the mystical, but it wasn't until I matured a little iota that I discovered John Maus!

There is a Cure outtake called "Ariel", named after the Silvia Plath poem, that even sounds a bit like an Ariel Pink song.

10:15 Saturday Night
One Hundred Years
A Strange Day
Faith
From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea

I tried to pick from different releases where possible, but Faith is my favorite Cure record, it just gets progressively bleaker until you barely have the will to allow yourself to breathe. Really frustrating how he almost refuses to play that stuff live (save for the occasional "Primary" or "Drowning Man" thrown into the set). I mean, he does full encores for most of the other albums!

At a push, my top five Cure songs would have to be:
100 Years
A Strange Day
Play for Today
All Cats are Grey
Funeral Party

Honourable mentions to Charlotte Sometimes, A Forest, and Siamese Twins.
That said, I also adore the early punky powerpop sound of Boys Don't Cry and the later whimsical new romantic era of Wish.
