And now pitchfork too. This has spiraled a bit. On twitter a record store announced they were pulling Ariel's albums from the shelves. They're just taking part in the machine--I tried to call them out for consistency. It sure is easy to pull the LPs by someone who doesn't move a lot of units. Will Zeppelin and Rolling Stones albums get pulled? Rock has had many abusers. To forgive them for being apart of a different time period or something is as good as Weinstein excusing himself for being a "dinosaur who grew up in the 60s."

I understand why people are upset, and they should be. But it doesn't mean this can't be an ongoing discussion.

When I first read about this incident, I got upset because I thought "how could my idol do this?"

eh, i've accepted the fact he's a messed up dude already. it doesn't change how i see his music at all.
of course i think mistreating women sucks, but the girl herself said she's fine and doesn't want to be victimised. and honestly i'm tired of witch hunts, as possiblegrenade said it mainstream artists do waaaay more nasty shit and barely ever get called out for it. not just rock but other popular genres like rap too.

I get where you all are coming from. I was at the SF shows too, and I've heard from other women since then about various other terrible shit he's done over the years that goes well beyond the interview trolling we're all used to. It's not just an outrage culture thing, I'm as big a fan of the music as anyone here. But there's a reason he's so concerned over a hit piece delving into his personal life.

What other terrible shit has he done over the years? I'm just curious, because I believe everything I've heard people get upset over has been taken out of context. The whole "maced by a feminist" thing was totally ridiculous for people to get mad about in my opinion. This isn't some fraternity douchebag who is saying these things, it's Ariel, who to me honestly seems like a sweet (misunderstood) guy.

What's the problem here? Charles is saying she was totally cool with it and that they were just playing around. I believe her.
