Maus Space

I've continually had a liking for the mystical, but it wasn't until I matured a little iota that I discovered John Maus!

Hoping to go to a free Widowspeak show at the Brooklyn Bowl later but not sure if I have RSVP'd successfully...

Went to Widowspeak, Molly's vocals being so low in the mix gave the songs an underwhelming, hazy lethargy...Shame because the record is so good!

Today I'll be in Central Park all day for 'Global Festival' - Neil Young, Foo Fighters, The Black Keys, Band of Horses, K'naan. Not really my thing overall, but I figure I ought to see Neil Young at least once in my lifetime without having to remortgage the house paying his usual ticket fees - it's free!

Caught the Dum Dum Girls in-store at Other Music last night. Got to chat to them and they all signed the new EP afterwards, here's a pic of me with Jules and Sandy.

Awesome. The drummer is cute. :truluv: And I like that you can see their new EP in the background.

Yeah I felt a bit like a toad between those 2 to be honest! They seem like friendly and genuine people as well as a very talented band playing to their increasing strengths.

My review of the Adam Ant show:

Also went to see port-royal at Pianos last Friday, and the CMJ showcase has started today in NYC so I have some other things lined up this week, including a Captured Tracks evening on Thursday at the Music Hall of WIlliamsburg with DIIV, Thieves Like Us, Mac DeMarco and Dignan Porch.

Upcoming in Hamburg is a record release party by a local band called Captain Planet and then Dirty Projectors, Chain & The Gang, Liars, supported by The Haxan Cloak, Ariel Pink, Cheap Time, supported by local garage youths Sick Hyenas, Monster Magnet playing their entire Spine of God album, Swans and then at the beginning of December I'll be going to Cologne to the Weekend Fest where among others Ty Segall, Deerhoof, Felix Kubin, Lucky Dragons, Chain & The Gang and Die Goldenen Zitronen are playing. This event is crowned by the highly unlikely Stephen Malkmus + Von Spar are playing Can's Ege Bamyasi (what the fuck?).

Looking forward to seeing Mark Eitzel in Bristol in March. I expect some extreme self flagellation.

I went to the Big Snow Buffalo Lodge in Bushwick to see Gap Dream the other week (I'm obsessed with Burger bands at the moment, and their s/t release is one of the very best titles the label has to offer). Supposed to be kind of an 'art space' for more underground and left-field artists, but it was more like a small room with leather sofas and chairs in each corner where everyone was chain smoking to ensure that I smelled like an ash tray by the end of the night.
They were amazing and I bought one of those huge 3" "Get that motherfucker on the telephone" buttons from Gabe afterwards. Seriously in love with all things Burger, even seeing the I <3 Burger Records bumper sticker on Gap Dream's gear, and everyone else with 'I'm a Burger Bopper!' buttons on their jackets, just made me smile. :D

Then on Thursday this past week I went to LPR to see Moss Icon and Bitch Magnet, very intense and blistering performance from both bands.
