Maus Space

I've continually had a liking for the mystical, but it wasn't until I matured a little iota that I discovered John Maus!

ok, I've been a fan of this band just over 4 months now, so that makes me an expert who can divulge my order of preference for their albums:

1. WIXIW - starting to convince me that electronic music can be as emotive as guitars
2. Drum's Not Dead - very cohesive and has an entrancing moodiness throughout
3. Drowned - the kind of ugliness where you can't look away
4. Mess - the danceable tracks at the beginning were an initial turn-off, but I've grown to love them. And the weirder songs towards the end were immediate likes.
5. Liars - Just a bunch of songs, some great, some not so great.
6. Sisterworld - I go up and down with this one. Doesn't seem as "deep" as the first four on this liswt
7. Trench -- not bad, but I don't listen to it much. Might as well be a different band.

you should pay just a bit more attention to trench. i find it to be a record that needs to be played at the right time.

Another fine bit of film making. A bit discomforting though, if I'm honest, and not one of my favorite tracks on the album. but very effective.

And darn it, this is one of my favorite bands now. I've noticed that I can't ever just listen to one album. I usually have to listen to 2 or 3 at a time.

i know what you mean RG. if i listen to mess i have to listen to wixiw and sisterworld in the same sitting. usually no matter what liars album i listen to i usually have to cap it off with a few bsides. they have so many unbelievably bsides and rarities.

Nice feature article that sums them up pretty well. Kind of oddly timed because it's not promoting anything new, but a good read anyway.

Can't wait to see what they'll do next!

How can you tell? I watched all 4 of those video clips and didn't see any obvious hints at anything.
But lordy, I am so ready for a new Liars album.
And if the music in those videos is any indication as to what's coming, that's great news too.

they did the same type of "breadcrumb" videos when they were getting ready to release wixiw. no solid confirmation yet let alone a record name or tracklisting.

but i can feel it coming. can't you?

Who knows maybe it's the soundtrack to that movie they scored
But such activity would indicate something is brewing

Found a used copy of the Liars/Oneida split EP "Atheists, Reconsider", over the weekend for $1.97. Pretty glad about that.

I've said this before, but when I discovered Liars via this forum roughly 3 years ago, I found an immediate kinship with them, even though stylistically they didn't play music within my usual comfort zone. I really do think of them as the modern day equivalent of Wire.

Definitely looking forward to whatever they put out next!

I got the first album in 2002, when I was going through a bad breakup with my girlfriend in college. It really helped heal me and I'm very much indebted to their music. I remember listening to the last track in my sister's car when she was driving me home for Thanksgiving break and she told me to turn it off because, well, you know how repetitive it gets at the end...
Anyway, I have always been enchanted with their releases, they are a special band
