Maus Space

I've continually had a liking for the mystical, but it wasn't until I matured a little iota that I discovered John Maus!

4. Twin Peaks: The Return limited series score
5. Ariel Pink - Dedicated to Bobby Jameson
There were many other awesome ones by GAS, Fever Ray, Depeche Mode, Demen, et al

Anyone else have favorites? I’m curious, and don’t want this thread to get buried.

so I stopped listening to new stuff at some point this year - probably late summer - and never really got back into it except that I'd probably have the new JM at #1. but I've missed quite a lot. anyway here's what i liked up to about that time with a small description

Kollapse - Angst (Swedish, for fans of heavy/loud)
Sam Mullaney - blue twenty four (ambient tape cut-up stuff, Autechre-meets-something nicer!)
Prescott - Thing or Two (ex-members of Stump w/current members of Scritti, Pere Ubu, bit like Tortoise)
Isolert - S/T (Greek black metal)
Jefre Cantu-Ledesma - On The Echoing Green (sound art, ambient, drone)
2:13PM - Matkormano OST (ambient, drone, soundtrack)
Ex-Fulgur - Noires Sont Les Galaxies (like a French electro-pop Arab Strap)
Oddisee - The Iceberg (leftfield rap)
Stormzy - Gang Signs + Prayers (pop grime)
Bing & Ruth - No Home of the Mind (modern classical piano stuff)
The Necks - Unfold (exploratory repetitive minimalist jazz)
Tomboctou - Ceiling Coast (dayglo avant-rock)
Mark Wynn - More Singles But They're Not Really Singles I Just Sent Them To Screen And Said They Were Singles Singles (maniac autodidact Yorkshire poet does bedroom pop)
Ulrika Spacek - Modern English Decoration (for fans of Deerhunter)
Aye Nako - Silver Haze (shouty art-punk)
Dauðyflin - Ofbeldi (crushing hardcore from Iceland)
Lena Filatova - CAA 30 (Russian field music, found music, distant pastoralism)
Fanny Kaplan - vsjo dozvoleno ili net (Russian keyboard no wave, all girl group)
Bolywool - From Void To Matter (Swedish indie rock that references those jammy longhair Swedegroups of yesteryear ie. Parson Sound)

1. Zach Phillips - How to Slip Away
2. Thundercat - Drunk
3. Joey Agresta - Let's Not Talk About Music
4. Nikmis - 10 Movements for Large Synthesizer
5. Ariel Pink - Dedicated to Bobby Jameson
6. The Drums - Abysmal Thoughts
7. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard feat. Mild High Club - Sketches of Brunswick East
8. Pile - A Hairshirt of Purpose
9. Gas - Narkopop
10. Drab Majesty - The Demonstration

“How to Slip Away” is probably my favorite album put out over the last 10 years, you should all check it out. It’s on bandcamp for free. Totally insane that it hasn’t gotten more attention than it has.

Zach's a lovely guy to boot. Eagerly anticipating/hoping for the next Blanche Blanche Blanche release.

If you go to ORS Tapes main page, it looks like he's putting out another solo release in December. This dude is on fire. I would say he lives in the same alternate universe (and has the same amount of genius) as Ariel and John, even does a great cover of "I Wanna Be Young" on one of his past releases. I'm slowly making my way through the OSR catalog, although the projects he's more involved in, such as Blanche Blanche Blanche and his solo albums are my favorites.

Fun fact, I posted about BBB a while ago here and he pinged me on Mausspace with .zip files of all of the albums. I actually host OSR Tapes website too. I came across BBB because Dylan Ettinger (who released a couple of albums on Not Not Fun) said that I'd like this guy, he described him as being a better weirder Ariel Pink.

That Zach Phillips album is certainly good. Strange, strange, and undeniably cool.
