Maus Space

I've continually had a liking for the mystical, but it wasn't until I matured a little iota that I discovered John Maus!

60s psych/garage is the most fascinating to me, I remember when we used to have a cd store way back in the 90s and i was wishing for the Nuggets box set. That box was so enticing. These were the days when i couldn't afford much but eventually one of my ex-girlfriends had the good sense to buy that box for me. (I eternally thank her) I instantly fell in love with all the bands on that set, well most of them. It's been quite a journey to discover all these kinds of bands through compilations and what have you. I can think of a few that are highly rewarding:

of course a lot of the pebbles cds are fantastic (the East Side Digital ones are better imo)

I've got all the Nuggets and Children of Nuggets box sets but not seen these - will investigate, thanks!

I meant to put High All the Time vol 2 there as well. Beyond the Calico Wall (on Arf arf) has some profoundly psychedelic madness
Acid Dreams is the kind of comp you can give to someone who has relatively little appreciation for this type of music, and then they'll be sold (to whatever extent)
Once i upload music to last.fm you can see what other comps I have. The Past & Present record label did the Acid dreams and the high all the time comps, and they've got the vile vinyl and psychedelic super pjotr comps. Loads of crazy stuff. I don't think they've released anything recently. It's always nice to count on some of these labels!
And speaking of Nuggets, it's awfully sad that Rhino's not done any boxes recently. Where the Action Is was the last one...I think they could do one on the Midwest garage scene or at least another international box, we'll see though :S

Currently can't get enough of the more obscure John Maus demos from Snowless Winters and LLfH. I desperately wish someone knew where to find the first two lost tracks from the former.

Definitely going to delve into those psych comps after my busy freebie show stint this weekend!

Earlier I streamed the new Dignan Porch album, 'Nothing Bad Will Ever Happen'. I'm amused they had to post a frustrated disclaimer about how the album title wasn't meant to be taken literally and that they didn't really believe nothing bad will ever happen, as so many short sighted journalists felt the need to comment on how naive that statement was...

I mean, look at that cover! A post-apocalyptic wasteland with flying saucers hovering over it! Journalists...

I've got all my unsorted JM loaded into WMP, then I think I will listen to 'The Trip' curated by Saint Etienne, and some Soul Jazz Records comps...
