Maus Space

I've continually had a liking for the mystical, but it wasn't until I matured a little iota that I discovered John Maus!

hi everybody! i actually discovered john maus through this site of all things. i was actually scouring the web for positive reviews of the latest ariel pink lp, because a lot of websites were trashing him (i discovered him through a random buy at a record shop, i bought mature themes because i like the cover), and by chance i stumbled upon the discussion about pom pom. after looking through his section of the site, i began to wonder who john maus was, so i logged onto youtube, and by chance one of his songs was in the recommended videos section. it was rights for gays, which i loved(i seem to be rather alone in that opinion) and on a mad impulse, i listened to a good portion of love is real. i ended up buying all of his albums that i could find, and have been listening to them for a while now. i've actually begun seeking out vinyls of his albums (all of them, i just love me some coloured vinyl), so my mania is still in a rather embryonic form. the only other thing i can note is that i'm probably the youngest user of the forums, and that i've got quite the penchant for rambling.

peace all, and hope to see you soon
Welcome, Mausist, and best of luck with the vinyl collecting! I had the same compulsion and it only took me about a year to get every limited edition Maus record. I have four versions of We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves alone.

Hi everyone, I'm here because I saw Maus+Pink and I thought "this forum should be my home". Plus I'm writing an article about John Maus and I need more informations on him.

LadyLazarus I love your collection.

Thank you, Tragica, and welcome aboard ("All Aboard!" I'm sure I've used that before).
I am curious about who you are writing the article for and if we might read it when it's finished.

Thank you everyone! Yes, I can post it when it will be complete, but it's in italian.
In fact, I want to thank you for your lyrics section.

(I'm writing the article for my and my friend's online journal, really nothing serious).

Uhhh...let's see.

I'm currently 16. I discovered John Maus during the summer of 2014, but like most artists I tend to like later, I didn't really pay any attention to him. However, I decided to listen to his music, so I bought Pitiless on iTunes. My mind was blown. This was exactly the music I liked. I listened to Pitiless about 10-15 times, but then got bored and decided to get his other releases. My mind was blown again. I've listened to his entire discography (nonstop) around 3-4 times, and each individual album (sans Pitiless) 5-10 times. Love is Real is a 10/10.

John Maus is one of the few artists I know of now (other than Crystal Castles, ELP, The Postal Service, and The Caretaker) whose songs I tend to not skip over, and I know every song. I'm waiting for LP4 and another tour with tons of hype. Thanks for being alive, John.

Album rankings:
Love is Real > Pitiless = Collection > Songs

Hello, Maus Space forum-goers. I am Daniel K. Buntovnik. The first John Maus song I heard was Pure Rockets. I was 17. The year, 2007. My sis had it as a her profile song on myspace. Perhaps I should have heard him sometime sooner, because I spent most of my childhood growing up in the same desolate meatpacking town as him, and was acquainted with some of the younger Maus siblings. I discovered this forum a while ago, but I never signed up until now. I'll be honest: I wanted to sign up to tell you about my book which I am about to release for free on the internet. But I also am a bona-fide John Maus fan. I like Ariel Pink too, who I discovered after him (naturally), but I'm truly bonkers for minimal synth and coldwave movements in electronic music.

A warm welcome to you, Daniel! Intrigued by the book you mentioned. There are a few authors here on mausspace, so you're in good company. Please tell us more about it!
