Love the Fall. Been a fan since the mid 80s, when my friend came back from England with a copy of “Wonderful and Frightening World...”. I lost track of them in the 90s but got back into them the following decade, and for the most part their albums have been consistently good if not great. The first decade though, they were unstoppable, a titanic force unlike any other.
Mark E Smith was not a role model for me, or even a guy I’d like to have met, but he was the captain of a ship that persevered decades longer than I would have ever expected, and his vocal delivery and ingenious lyrics were one of a kind. I once spent an entire evening dissecting the song “Garden”, and the deeper I went, the more my mind was blown.
