Maus Space

I've continually had a liking for the mystical, but it wasn't until I matured a little iota that I discovered John Maus!

i still purchase cds when see them going cheap 'cause i can play them in my car.
maybe that seems somewhat antiquated to some folk out there

cds are a hangover from the 80s and 90s.
the quality is fixed to the digital-audio reproduction standard that suits stereos built from that era.
that being:
44.1 sample rate at 16 bit depth.

will they eventually go the way of the dodo?

ok. the obvious answer is yes.

back to the other question then.
do you still buy cds?

Not really, my iPhone supply's that music in the car function.
I never understood the hate for audio quality on cds, for me, a majority of the time it all sounds the same. I like having the cd just for ripping purposes, just in case my hard drive goes, so I still have a majority of my music.
I always prefer buying the vinyl, when ever I buy music. I only buy the cd if that's the only format it's available on, or if I find it SUPER cheap. That last cd I bought was Anamanaguchi's Endless Fantasy and before that was Hella's Homeboy/Concentration Face EP/DVD, neither have vinyl releases (yet....)
So no, I don't really buy cds.

I primarily still buy CDs. I'll buy mp3s if it's convenient, but even then, I'll sometimes also buy the CD later on if I really like the album. I also buy LPs sometimes too. I had a pretty substantial LP collection even before CDs came out.

My main reason for buying CDs is simply that I like having a large collection of objects on shelves. I've got a large collection already and I want to keep growing it. I want to think of it as a library. The sound quality difference between CDs and mp3s (the usual stated reason for preferring CDs) is not of major importance to me, and I like how I can keep thousands of mp3 files in a very small amount of (physical and digital) space. But when I talk about my collection, my CD and LP collections are the only collections that truly "count". The mp3s are like a lower tier of the overall collection. That said, most of my day-to-day listening occurs on my iPod - I keep the CD on the shelf and rip the audio to mp3 so I can carry it around with me.

I'm the same as RareGoat and App here. I find the intangibility of an mp3 album in this digital age kind of soulless. Maybe it's because I grew up in the 80's and 90's, but I just don't feel the same cosy affection for a file extension as I do a beautiful, heavy piece of wax that comes with full scale artwork. It's a tradition to sprawl on my belly on the carpet (I do have furniture: it just never feels right to listen sitting down) and just take it all in. I'm a very visual person so I feel as if I am being lured into an entirely different world when I gaze at an LP cover as the record spins. I'm also a very tactile person so I like to hold things in my hands.
It's increasingly common for the artists I am interested in to distribute exclusively cassette or LP only releases, so I've bought fewer and fewer CDs. I will always get them if they're available, however. I do have an ION tape converter and a USB turntable, but CDs are just easier to rip to a portable device.

She loves John Maus and is super cool! Too bad she's already caught and living in the UK :S
And maybe one day she'll make that Phil Thomas Katt portrait but no pressure!

I'm only caught in the UK and trying to get out. :sadparty:
I still have the best intentions to do that Katt picture for you, too! It will happen. I'm just very slow. :delaware:

Early days yet and this is only a preliminary sketch, but, see, I am doing it:

Don't worry. It's going to be much better than this when it's finished. Hopefully.

Sorry the pic is so misty (it was taken on my phone), but you get the idea.

Sorry for hijacking this thread, too! Please, everyone, do carry on.
