Maus Space

I've continually had a liking for the mystical, but it wasn't until I matured a little iota that I discovered John Maus!

I'm a parson? I've always thought he was saying opposum. A long time ago my friend suggested that this song was an message about not testing cosmetics on animals...I really don't know if that is correct but it always makes me laugh. I never think of Ariel as being too big on messages like that..but he's a complicated guy.. so who knows.

i think it is definitely 'Einstein was right,' even though i don't really understand where that fits into the thing

I've actually always heard "possum" too.

I found this online, a lot of it sounds right:

Yeah

I'm a blossom across the street
I lie in wait until sundown
I saw it happen
I saw you murder
I watched the knife as it went down
Into the breast
And now you're runnin' around and around
Runnin' for cover
They'll soon discover
Dead in the street
Einstein was right

Red murder
Hidden in lipstick
Hidden in lipstick
Red murder
Hidden in love

Where are the women
Where are the men
Where are the girls
Where are the girls now
Where are the women
Where are the men
Where are the girls
Where are the girls now

I'm a hunter
I flash my teeth
I snuck you into my dog nest
Tail is frozen, headlights in go over
Einstein was right

Red murder
Hidden in lipstick
Hidden in lipstick
Red murder
Hidden in love

Red murder
Hidden in lipstick
Hidden in lipstick
Red murder
Hidden in love

Shower me in blood, child
Shower me in lipstick
Shower me in blood, child
Shower me in lipstick

Where are the girls
Where are the girls now
Where are the girls
Where are the girls now

Who is this?
Who am I?
What is this?
Truth is this
That it lies
Truth exists

Who is this?
Who am I?
What is this?
Truth is this
That it lies
Truth exists

I figured it out. This song is about the lipstick murders which happened in the 1940s in Chicago. A guy named Charles Einstein wrote a book about it called the Bloody Spur, later made into the movie While the City Sleeps.

I think the song is about the book - not the murders exactly.

I didn't either! I seriously woke up in the middle of the night and just knew i had to google "red murder lipstick einstein". I did and it popped right up! The whole thing about the ambitious newspaper men seems like a very arielesque topic to me too.
And then Hollywood mangled Einsteins book and he moved to Europe.

Funny that Ariel wrote it so long ago but yet he's the victim of ambitious newspaper men right now.
